Obtaining a Passport PDF Print E-mail

In March 2007 the Belize Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Belize Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, and the Belize Consulate General in Los Angeles, California began processing ONLY applications for machine readable passports.

Machine Readable Passports can only be applied for in person at these aforementioned locations.

The Embassy of Belize in Washington D.C., USA charges the following fees (USD) for:

  • An ordinary passport (32 pages) - $100
  • Replacement of a lost, damaged, or stolen passport - $125.00
These fees include shipping by Federal Express Courier

General Requirements to obtain a passport

1. Documents required:

If the applicant is:

 

a) a Belizean by birth (born in Belize) – original birth certificate from the Registrar General’s office (for those applying for the first time and those replacing lost, destroyed, or stolen passports); previous passport (for those replacing/renewing available passports.)

 

b) a Belizean by descent [born outside Belize to Belizean parent(s) and has completed the naturalization process]

(i) original birth certificate from native country and

(ii)his/her original Belize nationality certificate or other evidence of

    Belizean nationality.

c) a Belizean by registration (born outside Belize to non-Belizean parents but has become a citizen through naturalization) –

(i) original native birth certificate or expired Belize passport and

(ii) his/her original Belize nationality certificate.

d) a married woman – all of the above that apply plus an original marriage certificate (issued by the Belize Vital Statistics Unit or registrar’s office if the marriage was done in Belize.)

e) a divorced woman wishing to revert to her maiden name – all of the above that apply plus the original divorce certificate.

2.  Authentication of application:

The application form must be authenticated and sponsored by a registered Medical or Legal Practitioner, Notary Public, Registered Minister of Religion, or an Honorary Consular Officer

3. Photo identification is required from first time applicants or those not in possession of a previous passport. This may be in the form of a social security card, voter registration card, or Driver’s licenses.

Processing of applications may take approximately 2 -4 months.

One year passport extensions

Applicants for Belizean passports in the United States who are unable to travel to a passport issuing site - Embassy of Belize in Washington, DC; Consulate General of Belize in Los Angeles, California; or the Permanent Mission of Belize to the United Nations in New York City - may request a one year extension of their expired passports. Passports that are submitted for extension must be in good and readable condition.

In order to obtain the above extension, applicants must send their expired Passports to the Embassy of Belize in Washington, DC, (2535 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20008, USA) along with a completed Passport Application Form and two photographs.

Normal processing time for passport extensions is approximately three weeks.

FEES for shipping and handling

A fee of US $10.00 is charged for the passport extension, and an additional US $30.00 is charged for returning the extended passport to the applicant via FEDEX courier

An optional US $25.00 urgent processing fee is charged in the event that the applicant wishes to have the passport processed for extension on the day that it is received.
